General best practice is to cut with a very sharp implement, the dead traps away, this prevents the opportunity for fungus to take hold there. Snip at the leaf junction to the trap.
When you need to cut a leaf, just cut down close to, but not endangering the plants other good tissue, at the bottom of the leaf.
