should work ok.
just cut off the black trap, leaving just the "leaf", peel the leaf away from the rhizome and try to get a small bit of the white rhizome attached to the leaf, then plant it..will likely form a new plant.
the fact that the trap turned black should be of no consequence.
just cut the black part off..
