Question

Hey all,
I have a question. Whenever you buy a VFT from a supermarket or a local hardware store, most of the common VFT traps are huge ( at least an inch wide ). But when purchasing and repotting it, the plant traps gets smaller.

How come? exhaust in energy supply?

Also what causes the plant to produce large traps in the first place?

Healthy plants produce large traps. From my experience, VFT's tend to put out large traps after they are well estabalished. A shocked adult plant won't do it.

It's always best to repot only during or at the end of the dormancy period, your VFT will experience little if any shock then. IMHO, cut your losses now and don't hope for the plant to get large this growing season. Allow it to go through dormany this winter and then put it outside under good sunlight in the spring and your VFT will probably look even better than when you bought it by midsummer.
