Well, I was going to get a bunch more flytraps on video today, but unfortunately something "attacked" my flytraps again so they are not looking at their best. I'll re-make this video again next year with better video clips and healthier flytraps anyway...
Here is what I had going! (be sure to...
My venus flytraps are looking good right now, and I thought I would share a couple of pictures. These are being grown outside with full sun most of the day. The medium is one part each of peat, perlite, and quartz sand, and the pots are 10" wide and 5" deep.

I recently received a Venus Flytrap and Drosera Spatulata in the mail. They both came pretty banged up. I left them in a bowl of distilled water for about two days, and transplanted both the drosera and flytrap in a clay pot (two separate pots) using only long fiber sphagnum moss.
A few...
Hey everyone,
I snapped some pics today of my flytraps enjoying the rain. Although, some of the traps closed.
I'll be honest, this is the best my flytraps have ever looked, and I'm hoping they'll be even bigger and better next year. :D
enjoy!
all of these in the bin thing are from keehn's...
These are two plants started from seed that I've had my eye on all year. I finally decided to uproot and repot them into deeper pots of their own and set them in the tray I have designated as evaluation plants. These photos were taken immediately after repotting, so the plants don't look their...
Not really but am I the only one that gets the urge to sell'em all about this time every year ? The work, the water, the familiy, the water, the family, the work, etc... Seems like every thing gets stagnant this time of year for me. Sarrs love it but everything else says water me now ! Not much...
Here are a few shots of the various cultivars of flytraps enjoying the Summer weather in Northern California -- and catching more than their share of flies and wasps in the process. The fourth photo (of the pale-colored traps with the flies) was a "death cube" rescue from an Orchard Supply...
I'm excited that in little over a month I'll be constructing a bog garden at my parent's place in NY. I know they have plenty of furry animals running around their yard. These include: deer, raccoon, cats, squirrels, chipmunks and moles (more likely in the winter). I was wondering if there...
Hey all, my name is Andrew Schnell, I'm a biology major at Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon and in my senior year (almost done!). I've been keeping CPs for quite a while but have never been on the forums, but my main hobby is gecko breeding (lots of rare and cool species, just like...
Hi guys! I live in Southern California near Palm Springs and it has been getting HOT. For the past few weeks, I have noticed that my flavas and now also my dentate flytraps have been getting burned from the extreme heat in the direct sun so I decided to move them under the patio where they get...
It just wasn't a good 15 June for crane flies (aka family Tipulidae). For whatever reason, they were everywhere in the city a few days back; and a fair number of my plants benefited. One of the flytraps, a typical, was a .99 cent rescue in 2010 from a head shop on Haight Street in San...
As some have you may realised, I'm new to the CP world and have only recently started growing. I understand the basics with neps, flytraps and sundews however I'm completely clueless about Sarracenia. I'm planning on getting a sarr soon as they're definately a gorgeous plant! I've had a look at...
Hello, new here and fairly new to the hobby.
I have a question about landscaping a bog garden. I was wondering if I could use bogwood, purchased from a pet store for use in an aquarium, in a bog landscape? Or any other wood for that matter. I’m trying to create a natural landscape for some of my...
After reading Est's how-to and trading a few PMs I thought a circulating bog was quite feasible for me. Pictured is actually a reworked version of my first go. I learned quite a few things from trial and error:
Problem 1: A completely open circulating system with just a pond pump and irrigation...
Hello.
Up for trade is a newly rooted basal from a seed-grown Nepenthes spectabilis x talangensis, the sex of which is unknown. It appears to be quite healthy and is slowly growing roots and forming a new leaf.
This is the plant.
Here is its pitcher.
This is what a mature pitcher...
Here are a few shots of flytraps with their first sets of Spring leaves -- a bit late in Northern California, after a long wet winter. The far larger traps will come with High Summer and the Fall. In the past few years, I have moved on to larger and deeper pots with annual re-pottting; and the...

Guess I kinda missed the ball here a while ago when I joined and never introduced myself, but just dove right in.
I grew up in Vermont and daydreamed about plants growing up... and had nice jungles in my room too with all the 'regulars' you find at Home Depot like crotons and dracaena and...
