Hi, ive recently purchased a P. gigantea the leaves dont appear to be producing any dew i was wondering what i can do to improve the production, i read somewhere on the forum that i should spray misty water onto the leaves? but i read elsewhere that i should never water the leaves cause they...

Just ordered a dormant Drosera Filiformis. What do I do with it?

I just ordered a dormant Drosera Filiformis. It's currently in a resting bud and I shall expect growth in a few months. However, what exactly do I do with the bud? Should I keep the soil somewhat dry and in a shaded spot? I'm worried that if it's too warm, it'll rot.

Outdoor Nepenthes cultivation ~ as requested

Contrary to belief, nepenthes are quite hardy as im sure alot of you know. but a few people have recently asked me how i grow mine outside during the summer months here in the Northwestern US. As many people know, Western Washington is part of a temperate rainforest, and the temperatures in...

Might be too wet, need your opinions

So, I've had my spect x aristo for almost two since Friday, and it's still kind of wet. x_x The mix was supposed to be 50/50 sphagnum/orchid bark, but I may have put in too much sphagnum (the good kind from Better-Gro). It came bareroot, so it may not rot, but I'm no expert. I'm thinking of...

    P. primuliflora from a leaf pull?

I was plucking old, dead leaves from a plant and accidentally pulled a live one from the base. For the lark of it I placed it in media, expecting it to rot with a couple days. A week has gone by and the leaf is still green. So perhaps it may actually produce a new plant, like a Mexican butterwort.

    Rootless Clipeata...

I just got a Clipeata in the mail, but it's unrooted. I'm currently soaking it in superthrive, just like I handled my rootless Hamata (it's doing fine btw). I can't find much info on this species. Before I went looking for info, I though it was an ultra lowland, tolerating constant high...

    Using Live Sphagnum as top-dressing

Recently, I coaxed some NZ long fiber sphagnum moss back to life. I did this with the plan of using it for a top dressing for a couple reasons: First I like the way it looks, second to help with local humidity, and lastly as a 'canary in the mine' - to signal if something is amiss. After it...

    End-of-season Sarracenia divison?

So when I first got started with CPs I could swear that most of the literature said that Sarracenia and other species with a cold dormancy could be divided just before or just after dormancy. Now, everything I can find only mentions doing divisions in the spring. Am I way off base, or can I get...

    Leaf Pullings and Woollies

A friend recommended that I make a thread explaining how I successfully got a couple of D. kennealyii leaves to strike floating in water. Here are some shots of some successful leaf pullings from my D. kennealyii. Setup on glass aquarium top under T5 lighting. A small D. kennealyii strike...

    Pitchers don't last. At all.

Sup, peeps? I have a problem. My N. campanulata have settled in and are pitchers well, growing fast, and all is well... BUT the pitchers just aren't lasting. I have never encountered this problem, so I don't know how to address it. I feed twice a month. Half strength organic fertilizer. The...

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly...Ceph question

I just took a look a few days ago at my beloved Cephalotus. It is two large clumps of Hummer's Giant with multiple crowns. I am in awe of it. One pitcher is about 2.5 inches tall and others are close. The good. I was shocked to see a flower scape! It never occurred to me it would ever...

    Question about fish food

Hey everyone, I just received three new Nepenthes, and I want to feed the open pitchers to promote some better growth. I've read through most of the stickied feeding post, and many people are saying that koi pellets get the job done very well, while others seem to think they make the pitchers...

    Few CP pics-nothing spectacular

I recently had a nice combination of access to a decent digital camera plus somewhat healthier plants than I've had in a while so naturally I combined the two and here we go: this one was is descended from one of my first neps. It was a basal that snapped off during repotting and then the...

    Passive hydroponics

Orchid growers are starting to use passive hydroponics. It's my understanding that all orchid growers do is use a pot with drainage holes about one inch up the side instead of on the bottom. They fill it with ceramic pebbles and water so that there's a reservoir in the bottom. I would have...

    Sigh...mildew.

Hi Terra forums, My Nepenthes have been pretty much having the time of their lives thanks to the humidifier that I know most of you are tired of hearing me rave about.:-D Anyway, its Sunday night and I just noticed mildew on my wall, which must have happened due to the high humidity. Obviously...

    And so i finally repotted....

And it looks a little something like this. . . what do you guys think? This is my first time transplanting venus fly traps and i was REALLY nervous and careful not to hurt my precious plants. (They were a little burnt from the other day. I threw them into the sun a week ago.) Also, if...
